A quiet walk
down a pebbled Irish country road
is the place to go for a mid-life crisis.
In the valley of my walk
I happened upon
a Leprechaun by the side of the road.
Seated upon a rock near a patch of shamrocks.
Cobbling his shoe.
His shillelagh against his side.

In heaven they call him “Snake Man”.
Started out like so many things.
A joking phrase, meant almost affectionately,
but troubling and hurtful none the less.
1400 years ago, the Fisherman Peter had first used it
