Birthday Wishes

The 55 candles on his cake burned brightly. 
Family gathered round,
there was now one grandchild,
a new addition on this birthday. 
He had gone through a number of trials,
yes travails, to reach this point.
There were times when he did not think
he would make it.
Just too much to do
and not enough to do it with. 
Not enough time.
Not enough money.
