They had been arguing
amongst themselves
as to who was the greatest
Mark 9:30-37
So,
it comes down to this
as the stars revolve in the heavens
must you be one of them
in order to be fulfilled?
Are these arguments about importance
- important?
You push and shove
grasping at the rungs of the ladder,
stretch for the brass ring.
If you could be another star in the sky,
so admired, is that so great a thing?
To spend eternity in the dark abyss,
high above
without a friend
lonely
peering down upon us?
Stars are marveled
only because of their celestial companions,
together in constellation, paint pictures.
Individually each eventually burns out.
If one is lost
it is missed – but by an expert.
The stars in the sky then -
all for show,
ask the North Star
which stands alone
in the early evening.
So now as you argue
as to whom shall be first,
I will walk off with the setting sun.
I cannot today bear to see the night sky
even with you shining there.

I don’t get this one…you are beginning to fall into the ‘over the reader’s head’ catagory that I have been lumped into by some of my readers….Why can’t you bear to see the night sky?
Thank you Edie. I did not feel 100% comfortable with this poem. Knew there was something that had to be worked on. You helped focus my energies. See if you like the changes I have made.
